Azabu Sabo

Azabu Sabo has been famous for its authentic Hokkaido ice cream. A small cup of its ice cream like these costs $3.80, a bit expensice but it do guarantee the quality. if you are unsure of which flavour to choose, and do not want to regret ur choice, feel free to get the person to let u try the flavour you want! they do provide such services.

Green tea ice cream. there is a hidden taste of milk but not very strong. I heard its the authentic kind from Hokkaido. the taste is not too sweet and just right. i like the taste of the green tea. soothing for ur tongue.

727 cakerie

727 cakerie had been famous for its durian pastry. tried the durian puffs ($4.20 for a box of 6). the puffs were small but the fillings were rich. the whole puff is stuffed with solid durian fruit, not those kind of cream you usually get outside. the smell is really strong even before you open the box. its as good as eating a real durian fruit, save for the fact that there is a thin puff skin outside. the only minus point would be that you get the real ‘pulp’ in the fillings, which is harder than the durian fruit. some may feel that it adds to the texture while others would feel that it spoils the smooth texture of the fillings. well you have to try it and decide for yourself. img_7404img_7405img_7406

Wong Kok Char Chan Teng

celebrated 2 friends’ birthday at wong kok char chan teng in bugis junction. the place was spacious and brightly lit. quite comfortable as a dining place. the [rice of the food range anything from $6.90 to around $20.

beef horfun. ($7.30) the plate was sure big. was quite fragrant but i couldnt really finish the whole plate.somehow it was nice on the 1st few bites but i got sick of it. perhaps the gravy was too much.

yang zhou fried rice ($6.90).quite a nice dish with a lot of ingredients that went in.

my friend ordered this. not really sure what it is called but the main thing is the fried fish strips and the vegetable is fried. tastes like seaweed. quite a unique texture. ($6.90)

mango sago (6.20) the mango was sweet but i dun think its made of solid puree. the ice was a tad too much making it a bit diluted at the end. a bit too expensive for its price.

since it was my friend’s birthday, we got a complimentary “giant teh bing” (iced milk tea) when we showed the waitress the ic. a lot of tourists came over to take photos with it. quite a memorable experience if you hadnt tried it before.

final say: quite a nice place to chill out with friends but the food is so-so.. do go their to celebrate birthdays though! =)

Cafe Cartel (Plaza Singapura)

I had a class outing at cafe cartel yesterday.. it was a nice place to chill out and we chat there after lunch for about 3 hours. saw quite some students there because the weekday lunch promotion is easy on the pockets for students as well. One can enjoy a drink (peach tea/ coke/sprite/ coffee/tea), soup of the day, main course, and a desert. Of course, you can have free flow of bread which is the unique thing about all cage cartel outlets.img_71981

You get to choose from 3 kinds of main course everyday. we went on a thursday so the choices were: Grilled Salmon Fillet in Lemon Buttered Sauce, Shredded Pork With Mushroom Baked Rice and Spicy Chicken of the Mediterranean (this is available throughout the week). Everything costs just $9.50nett, which means no gst and service charge.img_7195

the peach tea and soup which came with the meal.img_7202

Spicy Chicken of the Mediterranean. the largest serving of all 3 meals. nothing exactly special about the sauce and not very spicy. there are some small potatoes which you don’t usually see around. very filling but nothing to shout about.img_7204

Grilled Salmon Fillet in Lemon Buttered Sauce. my friends complained that it was too dry. the taste of lemon was light and taste wasnt rich enough.img_7200

Shredded Pork With Mushroom Baked Rice . probably the nicest of the 3. the taste was just nice and the cheese wans’t overwhelming. img_7201

freeflow of bread. goes well with the butter and cheese powder provided. and good to go with after-meal chats.img_7211

dessert of the day, custard caramel pudding. sweet and not everyone can accept the taste. a few of my friends didnt even finish it. and the appearance, as it is given to us, makes it looks cheap. they could have scored higher in completing the meal by placing the pudding on a plate or did something to make it more appetizing.img_7213

Overall you can get very full for a price of $9.50 at cafe cartel but don’t expect much about the quality..

1st post!

hello everyone!

this is the 1st post of mangosteeniskind (aka MIK). well i spent a long 2 days trying to come up with a nice yet creative name. but i have to acknowledge that this name is not initiated by me, but inspired from my sis’s bf’s sis (that sounds like quite a complex relationship ya) blog post. so if you are interested to know the story, it goes like this..

“a mangosteen is a kind-hearted fruit.

most fruits turn soft when they are spoilt, but the mangosteen becomes as hard as a rock. it becomes impossible to open, so animals probably will never get a chance to bite into spoilt mangosteen flesh.

that’s why i think a mangosteen is kind-hearted.

then again, a banana turns black when it is spoilt.

but i don’t think that it is as kind-hearted as the mangosteen because the banana leaves the animal with the choice of whether to eat it or not. for an animal who has never seen a ripe banana, perhaps a black banana would still look appetizing. for the mangosteen, the animal has no choice but to abandon the rock hard spoilt mangosteen.”

yes being a lazy girl i just copied it down. oops. have no idea whether she will ever chance upon this blog but thanks to her for the blog name. hope she dun mind :)

well i hab always wanted to start another blog to talk abt sth i really love– eating! yes i love food, and like to take photos too. its quite a frequent thing to hear friends and relative telling me “you sure have lots of food photos on your blog yea?” yup i have another blog me-and-someone, but that will be all abt my life, while this is about food, food and more food. heh.

i just completed my A levels, and stepping on a new phase on life.there will sure be more freedom to come, and i am just as excited to eat more, more, more food! so watch out for this space! :) )

actually i really love mangosteen :D
